Hunza woman hoists Pakistan flag on South America’s highest peak

ISLAMABAD, Dec 17: Samina Baig from the Hunza valley, who became the first Pakistani woman to climb Mount Everest in May this year, has now scaled South America’s highest mountain, Mt. Aconcagua (6961 meters) together with her brother Mirza Ali under the Adventure Diplomacy Expedition.

According to Samina and Mirza’s elder brother, Mehboob Ali, the two siblings scaled the mountain after battling harsh weather conditions for almost nine hours. It is the first success of Samina and Mirza under the Adventure Diplomacy Expedition that aims to project a positive face of Pakistan around the world.

Under the expedition, the two sibling climbers aim to attempt the Seven Summits on the world’s seven continents. The expedition has been sponsored by the embassies of the Republic of Argentina, Indonesia, Nepal, Russia, US and Serena Hotels. It is pertinent to mention here that the Seven Summits are the highest mountains of each of the seven continents.

Scaling all of them is viewed as a mountaineering challenge. In 1985, Richard Bass, a businessman and amateur mountaineer, became the first person to reach the Seven Summits.–Mountain TV
