Lowari Tunnel: KP seeks three-day opening after two weeks

ISLAMABAD, Nov 9: A meeting with regard to the traffic on Lowari Tunnel, the only road link between Chitral and the rest of the country, was held under the chairmanship of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Secretary Muhammad Shahzad Arbab. It was decided in the meeting to request the National Highway Authority (NHA) to open the tunnel for three days after a fortnight to alleviate the hardships being faced by the public due to the closure of the tunnel. Chitral remains cut off from rest of the country due to snowfall on the Lowari Pass, the only main land route to the valley. Meanwhile, the KP chief secretary chaired another meeting on the Special Assistance Programme for widows and disabled persons. It was decided in the meeting to establish a private foundation within two weeks for providing assistance to the disabled, widows and destitute.]]>
