A lesson for govt, public representatives

RESHUN, Nov 2: The construction of a wall has been started on the Domon Gol by Shahzada Sirajul Mulk for the safety of the commuters travelling on the busy Chitral-Mastuj Road in Reshun. domon copyLocal residents, especially motorcyclists from the nearby areas, highly appreciated the act of generosity and public welfare by Shahzada Siraj. One of the motorcyclists said although it is a little effort but Shahzada Sirajul Mulk’s concern for the safety of passengers was highly appreciable. He said the local authorities should also seek a lesson from this. Another resident said the height of the wall should be raised otherwise it would not serve the purpose. This act of a concerned citizen also shows how our government authorities and so-called public representatives have concerns for the civic issues. Many government officers and MNA, MPAs daily pass through the site and many other similar dangerous portions of the road, but they always disregard for the public safety. Last year the residents of the area reconstructed the flood damaged portion of the same road near Zait on self help basis after the MPA failed to get the work done even after four years. It is not that they lack funds but misuse the funds given to them by the government. During his previous tenure as MPA, it is said Ghulam Muhammad  doled out millions of rupees to individuals to get votes but ignored public welfare works. It may be recalled that a report was published in ChitralToday captioned: “A death trap in Reshun” written by Mr Ali Sher Khan on October 26, 2013. https://www.chitraltoday.net/2013/10/26/a-death-trap-in-reshun/]]>

Something is better than nothing. I mean at least some work has been started at Domon Gol on the Chitral-Mastuj Road in Reshun. It is the result of chitraltoday.net’s effort which had showed concern on the matter and highlighted it. Due to this effort, a little work has been done by a private citizen. But building a wall is not a permanent solution. A bridge should be constructed over the nullah by the government. Every year the govt spends money on this portion of the road after rains and floods. If the govt builds a bridge once, it will not only save it from spending on this nullah every year but also provide safeguard to the travellers and save the time of the passengers.
