PTI govt criticized for ignoring Chitral’s flood victims

PESHAWAR, Sept 16: The president of the Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) Chitral women wing, Bibi Jan, on Monday said the provincial government had completely ignored the flood-affected people of Chitral.

Speaking at a press conference at the Peshawar press club, Ms Jan said the federal and Punjab governments had done a good job by sending relief packages of 50 trucks to the flood victims. “But where is the KP government; the flood victims of Chitral have got nothing form it,” she complained.

She regretted that the PTI-led government in the province had done nothing for Chitral’s flood victims. “The PTI-led KP government has no interest in working for the relief of the affected families to mitigate their problems otherwise it would have taken serious steps in this regard, said Ms Jan who last year left the PPP and joined the PML-N. She also said the residents of Jhugur in Chitral had asked the government to protect them from possible flood but to no avail.

As a result, the flood destroyed Jhugur along with scores of other villages. The affected areas included Bumburate, Rambur, Torkhow, Morkhow, Denin, Junali Koch, Rayeen, Booni and Reshun. She maintained that due to the flood bridges, roads and other communication system had been damaged.

She said now for the Chitralis Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was the only ray of hope to resolve their problems. She requested Mr Nawaz Sharif to visit the district and announce a comprehensive package for the people.
