'Women desks in police stations to check gender-based violence'

CHITRAL, Aug 22: Deputy Inspector General of Police, Malakand range, Haji Abdullah Khan has said women desks in the police stations of Chitral will help check gender-based violence and reduce the rising tendency of suicide. Addressing the delegations of local media and traders during his visit to Chitral here on Thursday, he said zero tolerance will be shown against drugs and the SHOs of the local political stations will be punished for their failure to curb the menace. He added that the situation about the drug peddling will be assessed on a weekly basis as most of the complaints were received from the public related to drug pushing. Mr. Khan said concrete steps were afoot to reduce the gap between the public and the police and the online registration of FIR and constitution of vigilance committees were aimed at it. He said that the problem of traffic will be resolved which has taken a serious turn due to the influx of a large number of non-custom paid vehicles from Afghanistan.
