PK-89: Dissident PPP workers support ex-tehsil nazim

CHITRAL, May 7: Senior PPP workers at a meeting in Susum, Karimabad, on Tuesday rejected the party’s nominated candidate for the provincial assembly seat of PK-89, lower Chitral.

Adressing a public meeting, the PPP activists, most of who left the party as a protest against what they say wrong allocation of tickets in Chitral, they said the PPP candidates had defamed the party and had no right to contest the election on its tickets. They said the main road to Karimabad passed by the river but it had no protection fence.

They said former tehsil nazim Sartaj Ahmad Khan was an old PPP worker but the central leadership ignored him and gave tickets to undeserving people without consulting the party workers. They said during his tenure as the tehsil nazim Sartaj Ahmad rendered meritorious services for the entire valley. They said the road to the valley was in a poor shape but it was never repaired. “We can export potatoes, onion, bee and other vegetables but due to the dilapidated the road transporters charged the farmers heavily.” They assured Sartaj Ahmad that they will vote him on may 11.

Addressing on the occasion, Sartaj Ahmad Khan said the area had plenty of natural resources which we can utilize for changing the fate of the nation. He said he had always worked for the betterment of the area and would continue to do so if he was voted to power. Those who spoke on the occasion were Sultan Shah, former district Naib Nazim, Mujeebullah, Haider Abbas, former Nazim Union Council Drosh, Habib Hussain Mughul, president Trade Union Chitral, Haji Mohammad Shifa, Shah Murad Baig and Rahmat Elahi, former Nazim Union council Ayun.—GH Farooqui
