Musharraf's nomination papers accepted in Chitral
CHITRAL, April 7: The nomination papers of former president Pervez Musharraf for NA-32 Chitral were on Sunday accepted by the returning officer. Returning Officer Mohammad Jamal Khan in his order said “No pending case has been decided against the nominee in which he might have been convicted and sentenced to undergo any sum of imprisonment or payment of fine. “Similarly, in no other case he has been convicted or sentenced to undergo imprisonment nor he has been put to trial on any of the allegations and charges leveled against him in the objection petitions.” Hence the objection so raised in the seven petitions are not tenable and nomination papers of General Pervez Musharraf for contesting general elections as a candidate for NA-32 Chitral are accepted, the order sheet goes. The RO on Thursday had reserved order on the seven applications of some political parties and lawyers seeking rejection of the nomination papers of the former president. Muneeruddin Khan, the counsel for the Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI), had contended before the judge that the former dictator had usurped powers of the supreme judiciary on November 3, 2007, and abrogated the constitution twice. He also referred to the technical discrepancies in the nomination papers and said the signature of the candidate did not match with the one in the nomination papers and that in the nomination papers he had concealed his farmhouse in Chak Shahzad, Islamabad, and the expenses incurred on his foreign stay. On Sunday, when the RO came to announce his judgment, a large number of people from different political parties and lawyers were present on the court premises. The papers of the ex-president had been rejected from NA-169 Kasur and many people here were expecting that in Chitral too his nominations would be rejected. After teh announcement of the judgment, APML workers raised slogans and distributed sweets. In general, people in Chitral have welcomed the decision as Musharraf’s papers in two constitunecies – NA-139 Kasur, NA-48 islamabad and Karachi’s NA-250 – were rejected.]]>
Mr.Ismail Sloan! I agree with you tha Musharraf cannot be directly blamed for the murder of Benazir Bhutto without any sound evidence. Musharraf is popular in Chitral at least. You said, you had been in Pakistan lastly for eleven days. We are expecting you in Chitral for the third time also. We have not forgot your services for the area and keeping the account want to honour ourselves as your host.
Sorry. I disagree. I just returned from 11 days in Pakistan. I found that Musharraf is tremendously popular everywhere in Pakistan. Everybody in all areas of Pakistan are talking favorably about his return. Also, the charges against Musharraf are obviously bogus such as the claim that he “murdered” Benazir Bhutto. Everybody can see the videos of Benazir standing unprotected in front of unruly crowds just when she was shot even though there were numerous threats to her life. She was advised not to do that but she did it anyway. Nobody but herself can be blamed. The charges against Musharraf all seem politically motivated. In a fair and free election, there seems little doubt that he will be elected over the People’s Party and Nawaz Sharif’s PML-N.
This is intriguing and a conspiracy against Chitral. Musharraf’s papers have been rejected in all other areas like Karachi and Kasur but there was no problem with his nomination in Chitral. His contesting election from Chitral is dangerous for peace of the area. Our people should not be emotional. Musharraf did a great job for Chitral, there is no doubt about that and we all Chitralis will be indebted to him for whole life and our next generations will also remember his services. But his contesting election under the current circumstances is a threat to the peace of Chitral. Musharraf should himself realize this for the sake of the people of Chitral. We are with him we support him but please do not spoil our peace.
