MQM comes to upper Chitral

BOONI (Upper Chitral), March 16: As general elections are approaching fast and politicians are girding their loins to go to the voters again, young men mostly returned from Karachi have also started campaigning in Upper Chitral under the banner of Karachi-based Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM). mqmTalking to chitraltoday.net, Syed Nasiruddin Pirzada, the chairman of the MQM Upper Chitral organizing committee, said in October 2012 central leaders of the MQM came to Booni and formally launched the party here. He said 500 people had so far registered themselves as members of the MQM Upper Chitral. He claimed that the youth of the area were upbeat about joining the party and working for the betterment of the area as its residents were fed up with the traditional politics of old parties whose leaders come during elections with tall claims and high promises but disappear after winning the elections. He said they were in constant touch with the MQM leadership at 90 in Karachi. He said the MQM working under the dynamic leadership of Altaf Bhai would change the life of the people of this remote and backward area. Very soon, we will also arrange a public party in Booni and show our strength in the area, he added. He said he and other activists of the MQM were trying to convey the message of the MQM in each and every household. Political observers are of the view that the MQM phenomenon would not be able to catch the attention of the youth of teh area as majority of them are inclined towards the pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf of Imran Khan. Secondly, they added, there was no known figure to lead the MQM in the area where votes are cast mostly through ethnic and regional affiliations. Money also plays a role for which the MQM may not be forthcoming to spend in an area like Upper Chitral, where the propects of its success was uncertain.]]>
