PESHAWAR, Dec 7: Frustrated and disappointed from her party leadership and internal politics, Bibi Jan, the outspoken leader of People’s Student Federation (PSF) Chitral’s woman wing, here on Saturday announced her decision to resign from the basic membership of the federation.
The announcement was made at a press conference at Peshawar Press Club. Supporters of Ms Jan and some party men were also present on the occasion.
It may be mentioned that during the visit of Interior Minister Rehman Malik to Chitral a few days back, Bibi Jan was not allowed entry into the venue of a PPP workers’ convention. She was manhandled by women police when she tried to attend the gathering. Before that, she had been expelled from the post of PSF women wing’s chief by Falak Naz, the chairperson of PPP women wing Chitral for violating party discipline by holding a press conference against PPP leadership.
Ms Jan, a resident of Denin, is a third-year student at the Government Girls Degree College Chitral. She said she worked for strengthening the PSF and PPP for the past many years but the leadership always discouraged her.
“There is no place for sincere and dedicated workers in PPP otherwise the leadership would have taken notice of the problems being faced by the activists in Chitral,” she said and added that PPP provincial President MNA Asma Alamgir, who is also prime minister’s special adviser, had thrice visited Chitral and promised to provide a bus to the college but failed to materialize her commitment.
“On the occasion of a visit of Federal Minister for Interior Rehman Malik, we wanted to greet him but police did not allow us and manhandled all the women intending to proceed towards the venue of the function,” she said.
All this, she said, happened due to the provincial president and district president of women wing, because they did not want me to disclose the weaknesses of the women leaders.
Owing to indifferent attitude of central leaders, she said, “I am going to quit the office and the basic party membership along with my friends and supporters,” she added. She was also flanked by some of the party men.]]>
