Booni degree college for girls short of staff, classrooms
CHITRAL, June 13: The Government Girls Degree College in Booni, the only institution for females in the subdivision of Mastuj, remains without basic facilities since its establishment in 2002. It may be noted that classes in the college were started in July 2009.
At present, 835 students are enrolled in the college. However, the institution has a hostel that can accommodate only 50 students.
Member Provincial Assembly Haji Ghulam Mohammad inaugurated work on another hostel to be completed at a cost of 14 million rupees after which 50 more students will be accommodated there.
A function was held on the eve of inauguration of the work which was presided over by Afzaluddin, Principal of the Govt Degree College for Boys, Booni.
Speaking on the occasion, Hasina Wajib, the Principal of the girls college, thanked the MPA for keeping keen interest in development of the college. She said the college was facing acute shortage of staff. Fazal Rehman, Qalandar Shah, students of the girls college and the MPA also spoke on the occasion. They said the college was burdended with large number of students but with shortage of teachers for science subjects. There is also shortage of classrooms and studensta re facing transport problems as there were only two buses. They said there were no lecturers of Physics, Political Science, Statistics, Geography, Pakistan Study etc since its establishment. Besides, it there is also no pipeline for water supply and its library has very less number of books. They also raised the issue that non local lecturers were facing great problems due to lack of in accommodation and the college also needs a hostel for non-local teaching staff.
They also demanded construction of more classrooms, a hostel for staff and more buses for pick and drop of students belong to remote areas. Some students of the college also demanded its upgradation to postgraduate level because most of girl students discontinue higher education after completion of graduation from this college because there is no university campus and no postgraduate college in the area.
The MPA assured them of his support and also said a campus of Benazir University Sheringal will be opened at Booni in near future.—G.H. Farooqui
